The Courtyard

  1. What qualifies a resident to be admitted to an Alzheimer’s Assisted Living Facility?
To qualify for THE COURTYARD the applicant must have a diagnosis of dementia from a physician. A primary dementia with controlled psychotic symptoms is acceptable for admission; longstanding psychosis with secondary dementia is not.

The applicant must be ambulatory or semi-ambulatory (requiring the assistance of a walking device) or wheelchair. A person requiring a wheelchair must be able to self-transfer to bed, commode and chair.

Our residents eat family style in the dining room and therefore the applicant must be able to feed himself.

  2. Do you accept Medicare and Medicaid?
The Courtyard is a private pay facility. Persons with long-term care insurance may be compensated for some assisted living care. We work with families to determine the feasibility of long-term care reimbursement.

  3. What are your rates?
The Courtyard provides care based on levels of service. Care levels change according to improvement or decline in abilities. We will be pleased to discuss those rates with interested family members.

  4. Will my family member be able to move into the nursing home when the time comes?
It is our goal to see that our residents age in place, when appropriate. We can provide home health services within the assisted living environment as well as hospice if appropriate. As nursing needs increase we work with the management teams of the other facilities on campus for appropriate placement if it is available at the time it is required.

  5. Do you have a Waiting List?
The Courtyard encourages every applicant to visit our facility and fill out an application for admission. Openings become available regularly and having the application submitted insures the applicant is on the waiting list for admission.

  6. Do you have a physician who sees residents in the Courtyard?
We have several options to meet resident needs depending on their individual family preferences. Some family members may want to retain their Primary Care Physician or specialists. The Courtyard also has a physician who can serve the Courtyard residents.

  7. What is your staffing ratio?
The Courtyard has a Director who oversees the operations of the facility. Our Resident Care Coordinator is an LVN. The Coordinator oversees a staff of medication aides and resident assistants. A weekend LVN Supervisor is part of this staff and helps to insure health needs are addressed each day of the week. Our team also includes an office manager, Life Enrichment staff, and volunteers. The housekeepers, dietary, and maintenance staff is also an integral part of our team. Our 24-hour supervision and support is a comfort to the resident as well as the family.

  8. Do you have private rooms?
All of our apartments are private suites consisting of a private bedroom, a private bath and a living room.

  9. Who provides the furniture?
Each resident brings his own furniture in order to create an environment as close to home as possible. Furniture would include at least: a bed, nightstand, chest, chairs, and sofa for the living room. The rooms are 380 square feet and diagrams are included in the admission packet. Decorating the room with items belonging to the resident creates a history or story of the resident’s past interests.

  10. How are medications handled?
The Courtyard nurse will work with the family to get prescriptions filled as needed. The family may use the pharmacy of their choice. We do have a pharmacy on campus located on the ground level at Greenway Village. We can also recommend pharmacies that deliver to the facility.
